Karl Bickel [ 1st Part : 1923/1945 Switzerland stamps ]

[Switzerland] (b 1886/d 1982)

Educated as a lithographer and cliché drawer, he became technical director in a Zurich Advertising Atelier from 1904 to 1908. During this period he went to the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich and from 1914 to 1918 worked for the Graphic Institute J.E. Wolfensberger Zurich. He received his first jobs  from PTT (Swiss Post) for stamps and advanced to the most well-known stamp printer in Switzerland. In 1924, Bickel moved to Walenstadtberg and started working on the monumental mosaic work PAX MAL in which he created the walls in his own relief-mosaic technique [ artifiche.com ]
