Otte Skold

[Sweden] (b 1894/d 1958)

"From 1912 to 1914 , Otte Skold was a student at the Althins Painting School, at the Wilhelmson Painting School and at the Stockholm Technical School . (..) He performed artistic activities in Copenhagen and Paris . Skold also served as a teacher at the Académie Montparnasse and at the Maison Watteau in Paris in the period 1925-1926. He was a Art Educator for much of his life. (..) In Paris in the 1920s he co-operated with Nordic colleagues at the Académie Scandinave and when he returned to Sweden in 1929 he started the Åke Pernby and Otte Sköld painter's school.. (..) he was professor of figurative painting from 1932/38 and Painting from 1938/1942.. (..) Sköld became the superintendent and head of the National Museum in 1950. He was given the clear mission of creating a special museum for contemporary art. Eight years later, in May 1958, the Modern Museum was opened .. "
