Antanas Zemaitis

[Lithuania] (b 1876/d 1966)


Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1976-1966) was a Lithuanian painter and a prominent art collector...sometimes he used the Antanas Žemaitis Pseudonym. From 1899 he studied Art at various European universities. Later he started lecturing Art on Lithuania. Together with MK Čiurlionis and other Lithuanian , he organized the first art exhibition at Casa Petras Vileišis. Between 1926 and 1940 he taught drawing in Kaunas, and in 1947 became a professor. Antanas Žmuidzinavičius died in 1966 and a Museum was established in his former home.
