Holger Philipsen

[Denmark](b 1912/d 1993)

"Holger Philipsen was a dazzling cartoonist, a great humorist and one of the most important names in Danish cartoon golden age...he was educated at the Academy of Arts and Sciences in the 1940s and created the "Carlt-nemli" humor magazine, where Carlt and his boss quickly became an institution in the newspaper and the popularity rose to unprecedented heights when Philips during the occupation (2 World War II) let its main characters express themselves unequivocally about the Germans. (..) In the end, the series stopped and Philipsen went underground - where he continued to make artwork for illegal resistance magazines...he has also designed several postage stamps starting from 1964 to 1984...(...)"
