Jacques Derrey

[France] (b 1907/d 1975)

"Born at Toulouse in 1907,Jean Derrey  traveled to Nantes when his father died...(..) he joined the Nantes Fine Arts School in 1926 , followed by the Paris National Fine arts School from 1928 to 1935..(..) in 1936 Durrey won the "Grand Prix de Rome" for  Engraving ...His Artistic activity was interrupted by WWII and in 1950 he was nominated Professor of Painting in the "Ecole académique de Valencienne"...Derrey then take the job of Director of the School in the following year...he was responsible for the creation of a degree in Engraving...in 1955 Durrey joined the Paris Polytechnic School ,where he teach Painting and Engraving until 1973..." He is mostly know for his beautiful Engraved illustrations for several books...
