Francine Somers was born in Ghent ..Her father was a goldsmith, jeweler, engraver and watchmaker in Dampoortstraat and her mother was very musical and studied piano and singing . She was only seven when her exceptional talent for drawing was noticed by Jules De Bruycker...with only 13 years , Francine entered the Ghent Fine Arts Academy ..from 1936 to 1943 she studied living Model, Still Life, etching and sketching. Francine Somers graduated with two awards: the first prize of the Academy (gold medal), and the prize "Jean Delvin." During WWII she made numerous sketches about the life and the misery of war in Ghent..in 1951 the family moved to the Belgium Congo to return to Brussels only in 1954...during this brief period , Francine awake for the worlds of Sculpture and Medal Design, that in the following years had great importance in her Artistic life...She also worked as an illustrator and Poster Designer...
