Tranquillo Marangoni

[Italy] (b 1912/d 1992)


Tranquillo Marangoni spent his youth familiarizing himself  with the wood and the Working tools, while helping his father in the family business.. meanwhile he devoted his spare time to drawing , starting in 1927 to work as a furniture maker... from 1933 to 1934 he fulfilled his Military time in the Artillery where he worked in the topographic division as a designer...he began his xylographer activities in 1942 , when he made his first bookplates, while working as a draftsman and naval interior designer... in 1946 he participated for the first time at an exhibition and one of his works was awarded...in 1953 , in a joint effort with other Artists he co-founded the Venetian Engraver's Association... he was appointed an honorary member of "The Society of Wood Engravers" in London, and in 1958 he designed his first stamps for the Italian Post Office...He then moves to Genoa where he became director of the Art School from 1967 to 1981...Marangoni was a very versatile Artist with works of Engraving, book plating, tapestry, frescoes, mosaic,  stained glass, book illustration, graphic design, glass and Architectural Decoration, use of Plastics, etc... He was appointed corresponding member of the Royal Albertine Academy of Belgium, and an honorary member of the Royal Society of Painter, etchers and Engravers "in London...
