Pierre Taponier

[France] (b 1893/d 1968)



In 1901 Frederic Boissonnas  and Andre Taponier decided to open a Photography Atelier in Paris... ' L' Atelier Photographique Boissonnas et Taponier' rapidly gain considerable success under the Technical and Artistic direction of Taponier , a renown portrait specialist ...In 1912 , Bossannais left the Atelier , but the company continued to use the same name for some time before changing to 'Taponier'...After WWI, Pierre Taponier  joined the Atelier where he proceed with the Technical and Artistic Excellence of the company after his father Accidental Death in the 1930 Christmas Day... Together they were the Photographers of Royal Families , Famous Personalities and Fashion Houses.. The financial crisis of 1929 , the WWII and a new vision of Photography dictated the increasing lack of interest in the classical Portrait and brought to 'Taponier' the urgency of Adaptation to the new Market demands... In 1949 Pierre and his brother Jacques Taponier, were among the first to use and share in France the new Color Techniques of Kodac (Color Die-Transfer) adapted to Portraits and Advertising ..this was a period of great creativity and Financial gains due to the work done for companies like Veuve-Clicquot, Ruinart, Dior, Sauzé, Marquay, Cristallerie Saint-Louis, etc.. the rapid emerging of a great number of new Companies and the demand of constant innovation brought a fierce competition to this new market and 'Taponier' wasn't ready for it and closed in the End of 1958...
