Teodors Zalkalns

[Latvia] (b 1876/d 1972)


Zaļkalns studied at the Shtiglits School in St. Petersburg from 1893 to 1899; studied in Paris from 1899 to 1901 and taught at the Industrial Arts School in Ekaterinburg (present-day Sverdlovsk) between 1903 and 1907. After living in Florence from 1907 to 1909 , he returned to St. Petersburg in 1910 and settled in Riga by 1920 , where he spent the rest of his life.. Sculpture was the Art branch he embraced and he became famous for his numerous works , sometimes monumental... worked also in the creation of medals and was awarded during his life with numerous Artistic Orders...

[ Updates of this post are possible , because i don't have yet data from the years 1934 to 1939 in what concerns the Design of the stamps...further research is needed.. ]
