Pieter A. H. Hofman

[Netherlands] (b 1886/d 1965)

"Pieter Adrianus Hendrik Hofman was a Dutch glass artist , painter , graphic designer and book cover designer . Shortly after 1900, he attended evening classes at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague . His first assignments were designing posters for the Utrecht Jaarbeurs in 1918 and 1919. Then he started in 1919 to work in one of his specialties, designing book covers , often in a distinctive, angular Art Deco . In the course of the years of his hand were carried out about one hundred orders. He worked for Meulenhoff , PN van Kampen , Nijgh and Van Ditmar and Sijthoff . He also produced designs for program covers, ex libris , stamps , calendars, etchings, drawings and wall decorations. Its stained-glass windows show an affinity with the work of artists Thorn Prikker and William of Konijnenburg"
