Henrique Bernardelli

[Brazil] (b 1857/d 1936)


Henrique Bernardelli was born in Valparaiso, Chile, but at the age of 13 he was already studying at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro..in 1878 he choose the Brazilian Nationality and  traveled to Rome where he made first contact with the work of several Italian Artists..In the following years he participated in some of the Major Art Events like the Paris and Chicago Universal Exhibitions  (1889 and 1893) where he received critic acclamation and Awards...in 1891 he become professor of the recent National School of Fine Arts and lectured until 1906 , when he starts to give private lessons at his atelier.. He worked also as Decorator  and among his finest works are the arrangements he made in the Rio De Janeiro Theater  and in the National Library..Bernardelli received in 1916 the highest Honor an Artist could get in Brazil.. The Medal of Honor..
