Adomas Varnas

[Lithuania] (b 1879/d 1979)


After elementary School , Varnas attended the Kaunas Theological Seminary from 1897 to 1900 , when he went to St. Petersburg where he studied in the Imperial School of Fine Arts.. After further Art study's in foreign countries (Switzerland and Sicily) until 1910 he returned to Vilnius where he became a Professor working in several places of the country.. In 1920 he founded the Lithuanian Artists Union , together with other Artists..From 1923 to 1939 was a professor at the Art School of Kaunas, before teaching in the Vilnius State Institute of Arts..in 1949 he moved to the US where he became an important reference of the Lithuanian Community..
His work was vast and diverse.. Oil paintings, portraits, landscapes, several works as Bank Note Designer , Stamp Designer, Photographer ,etc..

I think this post is still Incomplete , so Additional Research is necessary , especially in the period of 1930/1932, where it is possible that Varnas have designed some more stamps..
