Venâncio Alves

[Portugal] (b 1853 / d 1933)



Admitted at 'Casa da Moeda' in 1866 , was nominated Chief Engraver in 1894.. All the coins and stamps of the final days of monarchy have passed by his hands and he was the author of the first Republican Coin, actually for Portuguese India ( 'the Silver Rupee' 1912), considered as a work of Excellency, with great aesthetic harmony and engraving quality..
Retired in 1913 due to a grave disease.
