Francisco de Borja Freire



[Portugal] (b 1791/ d 1869) 

Francisco de Borja Freire was nephew of the Engraver Cipriano da Silva Moreira, and in 1814 he was admitted as an apprentice in the 'Casa da Moeda'.. in 1828 he succeeded his uncle ... by 1830 he was nominated 2nd Engraver of the 'Casa da Moeda', and in 1836 he went to London for further studies.. in 1842 , following the Death of José Antonio do Vale , he was nominated 1st Engraver of the 'Casa da Moeda' and confirmed in that position in 1853..he retired from the work at 'Casa da Moeda' in 1864..
