Candido Costa Pinto

[Portugal] (b 1911/d 1976)


Founded the "Divergent's Group" in 1931 and still in that decade he starts his Graphic Activity.. During the 40's was responsible for several covers for the Collections of Science Fiction and  Detective books "Argonauta" and "Vampiro".. Invited to participate in the Portuguese world Exhibition in 1940 .. during this decade he made many exhibitions and won several prizes.. Since the beginning of the 40's , Surrealism was one of his main interests and this fact lead to the formation of the Lisbon Surrealistic Group in 1947 with the participation of other Artists such as Fernando Azevedo, Mario Cesariny and José Augusto França. 
In 1962 he left to Brasil, where he stayed until his death in 1976.. Curiously , this period in Brasil correspond to the time where his work with the CTT was more substantial with the design of  many important series of stamps...

Josef Seger

[Austria] (b 1908)


A twentieth century Austrian etcher, painter and arts teacher, Josef Seger studied art in Vienna at the Graphic Teaching and Research Institute and at the Academy of Pictorial Art, under Alfred Cossmann. Before the Second World War (1939-1945), Josef Seger exhibited his original etchings in Vienna, Berlin, Munich and elsewhere.
  After the end of World War Two, he became a Professor at the Vienna Academy. In 1948 he was chosen to design a new set of postage stamps by the government of Austria. Working in conjunction with the Museum of Folk Art, Vienna, produced the famous stamps depicting the traditional costumes of Austria.
  The British Museum, London, includes an impression of Josef Seger's "Bergkirche in Liechtenstein" (Mountain Church in Liechtenstein) in its permanent collection.

Rudolf Junk

[Austria] (b 1880/d 1943)



Graphic artist, brother of Viktor Junk. Studied at the University of Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. 1924-43 director of the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna. Focused on bibliophilic editions. From 1909 he worked as a graphic designer for the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei (securities, postal and revenue stamps). Member of the Hagenbund artists' association 1909-22.
