Julio Gil

[Portugal] (b 1924/d 2004)



Was a illustrator, Cartoonist, Caricaturist, Architect, Painter and Writer..Started his career as a Cartoonist in the so called 'Portuguese Youth Movement (Mocidade Portuguesa) ' Style while illustrating the Official Publications of the Organization.. More freedom was on his way , when he started working in the Magazine "Camarada" , writing and illustrating the Adventures of 'Chico' , a young 'boxeur' , later published in independent volumes...
His distinct drawing was left in numerous magazines and publications...

Trusted man of Duarte Pacheco (Minister of Public Works), Cottinelli Telmo was latter responsible for key works of the 'Estado Novo' Regime.. The Global Conception and Project of the 1940 Portuguese World Exhibition and the expansion of the Coimbra University were two of his major achievements..

Manuel Rodrigues

Manuel Rodrigues started his career in the NIS (National Information Secretariat) before ending his course at the Antonio Arroio School of Decorative Arts .. worked for the Portuguese World Exhibition of 1940 and distinguished himself in the Exhibitions Artistic Management .. Publicity had a decisive role in his life and career with the creation of his Own company "Estudio MR" in 1962.. He became one of the major 'actors' in the Publicity Design with several great campaigns....
Died tragically in 1965 at the age of 41 in a automobile accident..

Awarded with the 'Grand Prix de Rome' in 1906 right after left the Paris Fine Arts School.. Engraved his first postage stamp in 1911 and during his life he worked for Persia, Monaco, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, and Spain... Worked for Algeria, Tunisia, Netherlands and Colonies also as Bank Note Engraver .. also illustrated books , and during 25 years collaborated with the Magazine 'L'Illustration'..
After his death the project for a 'Marianne' stamp was accepted in 1967 (Marianne de Cheffer)..
