Renato Ferrini [ 1st Part (Italy Stamps) ]

"Renato Ferrini made the first solo exhibition in Orbetello at the age of 18...At nineteen, he moved to Florence to attend the Academy of Fine Arts. Upon graduation, in 1936 , he arrived in Rome where he attended the theater environment as a portraitist...In the cinema, where it had become famous thanks to the soft brush and incisive and the impressive precision of his portraits (which often were mistaken for photographs) he took top honors. Quickly it became an acclaimed poster artist for the major movie studios such as Warner Bros , the Fox Film , the Paramount and Italnoleggio who consolidated his reputation making of him one of the most prolific poster masters and representative of that era..Many famous film directors ( Comencini , Fellini , Visconti , De Sica , Rossellini , Pasolini [2] , Monicelli , Steno )  required his collaboration for their films. At that time many of the major companies and industries ( Pirelli , Supercortemaggiore , SIS, Terninos) made ​​use of his work for the creation of their own brands and advertising campaigns... In 1955 the Italian Post uttered the first stamp designed by the artist ...(..)  It was the start of a substantial production of sketches and stamps issued by the Italian Post. In 1962, the ' United Nations issued its first stamp after calling him to be a part, as the representative of Italy, of a group of designers responsible for the realization of sketches. Renato Ferrini will be under contract with the United Nations throughout his life ... In 1968, Ferrini draws the stamp of the twentieth anniversary of the Italian Republic (1 June 1966) ...In parallel to this activity graphics, he was active as a painter who saw him engaged in numerous exhibitions: Rome (Palazzo delle Esposizioni), Exhibition of Agriculture, Collective Schneider, the International Design Margutta, Living Art CIDA , where he received many awards including that of President of the Republic, of RAI TV and the Anguilla Gold [6] . (acknowledgment reserved by the Administration of Monte Argentario to all countrymen who are distinguished in the world). His works are now held in many private and public collections ( New York , Miami , Montevideo , Stockholm , Paris ).."

Edward Caruana Dingli

[Malta] (b 1876/d 1950)


"Born into an artistic family in Valletta in 1876, Edward Dingli had a knack for drawing from a very young age. In 1913 he gave up his military service to fulfil his long standing ambition of becoming a full-time artist. He was well connected with the Maltese elite as well as the British government in Malta, and as a result had no problem finding work. His talent and dedication saw him rise to the top in his field, and he in fact led the artistic scene in Malta through the first half of the 20th century. Artistically, he was direct heir to Giuseppe Cali, his friend and mentor, and passed the baton on to his own students at the Malta Government School of Art. Edward Caruana Dingli continued painting until his death in 1950."

Gerhard Marggraff

[Germany] (b 1892/d ?)


"Gerhard Marggraff has started his career as Painter and Graphic Artist ... later he has developed into an advertising Artist  whose works show full maturity and is further distinguished by Economy in the use of colors and clarity in Line and form..."  Margraff clearly spent his first years of work in the Advertising world, with the creation of many posters, paintings and drawings, starting from early as 1912... during the 20's and 30's his activity embrace also the design and development of typeface's...so the "Margraff Light Italic" in 1929 and the "Marggraff Deutsch" in 1939 were born and became the best known part of his Work...
