Stevan Dohanos [1st Part (1959/1970) ]

"Stevan Dohanos attended the Cleveland School of Art ...  He was nationally known as an illustrator and magazine cover artist, particularly for his work appearing in The Saturday Evening Post, for which he created over 125 covers. (..)  He worked in fine Art as well as in commercial Art and was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters and the Society of Illustrators. (..) In the 1960s he became chairman of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, which selected Art to appear on United States postage stamps."

Henry Cayon

[France] (b 1879/ d ?)


The first part of the life of Henry Cayon , his student days and the Schools he attended, are somehow forgotten in the Net....after 2 or 3 hours digging,  I only have data about him from 1911 on.. in that year he received some monetary help to travel...Cayon began by traveling through Mauritania, Senegal , Niger and Sudan...during some years , he traveled  also from Canada to Mexico, The French Antilles , Morocco ,etc ... in 1924 he returned to Senegal where he was nominated special correspondent of the Illustrated Magazine "Annales Coloniales" , to cover a French Parliamentarian Visit... during all these years he always continued to paint , receiving at the same time new and different influences... He is part of the group of  Painters known as Africanists ("Les Peintres Africanistes" )...

Antoon Molkenboer

[Netherlands] (b 1872/d 1960)


 "Molkenboer was a Portrait painter ,draftsman, printmaker, stained-glass wall painter, mozaïst, designer of costumes for masquerades, posters, book illustrations, bookplates, stamps and craft products (..) The ideas of his uncle Antoon Derkinderen had a significant influence on the development of  Molkenboer as an artist..(..) After successfully passed the training school and the National Academy of Fine Arts with Professor August Allebé as his tutor,  Antoon continued his studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and at The New York Student Art League. (..) After 1895 he became a political cartoonist and from 1900 to 1904 he designed for the Wagner Society all the costumes and sets for the performances at the City Theatre in Amsterdam .(..) Antoon was invited to work in the United States, to where he moved in 1906..In the New World, he led assignments for murals in Hollywood and the Majestic Theatre in Los Angeles, the Chamber of Commerce in Seattle, etc. (..) In the 20's ,the Dutch PTT invited Molkenboer to give shape to some postage stamps. (..) and he was also focused,since 1925, on mosaic art..(..) Molkenboer performed a large number of works, starting with his real first and also the largest dimensions mosaic, for H.Antonius Abbot Church in Scheveningen. (..) In 1925 he was commissioned for three stained-glass windows in the St.Fernandkerk to Arcachon in the south of France (..) In 1950 he made ​​his last monumental wall decorations (..) when he had already 78 years so he was helped in the implementation of this project by other Artists.."
