Demetrios Galanis

[Greece][France]  (b 1879/d 1966)


Demetrios Galanis was a Greek painter who became also a French Naturalized Citizen..in 1900 he attended  the Paris Fine Arts School and some years later, at the beginning of his career , he worked for several French and German Magazines ..in 1920 and 1921 he was already exhibiting with Major figures of the XX Century Painting like Matisse, Chagall and Picasso , and 1922 marks his first solo Exhibition that established his Reputation among the demanding world of Art Experts and critics....Landscapes were important in his work but his concern and fondness for the 'Human form' is reminded as the real high point of his Art... the French state honored him with the highest distinctions: full professor at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and a lifelong member of the Académie Française. 
He was also known for his works in wood engraving and etching...

Leonard Sowinski

[Poland] (b?/d?)

There are many references about this Artist in the Net, but unfortunately there isn't a single article about his earlier life and education...Leonard Sowinski was a worker of  PWPW, Warsaw ( Polish Security Printing Works).. he started to design stamps for Poland in 1925 and after the German Occupation he designed the first Occupation Banknotes , commonly known as " młynarkami" ...

[ during or after WWII ,Leonard Sowinski left Poland .. I didn't discovered yet what was the country he adopted to pursue his Work , but it is normal that future updates will be required , because Leonard could have designed stamps for that country... ] 








Dechko Uzunov

[Bulgaria] (b 1899/d 1986)


"Uzunov studied at the Sofia and Munich Academies of Arts (1919–24) . In 1938 he became a professor at the Sofia Academy of Arts. In 1965 he was elected chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. His paintings, most of which are portraits and landscapes, are distinguished by a free brushwork and rich colors. Uzunov received the Dmitrov Prize in 1962."

Margot Bitzer

[Germany] (1936)


From 1955 to1958, Margot Bitzer trained as an engraver in the Leipzig Securities Printing plant ... at the same time she attended courses at the Evening Academy of the Visual Arts University...Until 1983 , she worked as engraver in the Securities & Certificate Printing..from 1960 until 1964 the stamps she engraved bore her maiden name Sachs and from 1967 until 1972 she used her married name Bitzer. Since 1984 Margot embraced a Freelance career and since 1991 she is a member of the BDG (Federation of German Graphic Designers).
