Benjamin Damman

[France] (b 1835/d 1921)

Benjamin-Louis-Auguste Damman was born in Dunkirk, France..He won medals in 1879 and 1883 and was awarded with the prestigious Gold Medal of the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition.. he was specialized in Etching..

Leon Helguera

[Mexico][USA] (b 1899/d 1970)


The Artist Leon Helguera had a long successful career as an American artist/illustrator ; among his accomplishments were illustrating the First United Nations Stamp plus some United States Postage Stamps. Leon Helguera also did numerous commercial posters including some extraordinary Pan American Airways Posters.
Helguera was noted for his use of symbolism in his illustrations.

Esther Alethea Richards worked as illustrator and Graphic designer... She graduated from the Moore College of Art & Design in 1921.. Esther Richards was the first woman to design a US postage stamp..

Hatem El Mekki [1st Part (1957/1960) ]

[Tunisia] (b 1918/d 2003)


Hatem El Mekki  was born in Jakarta, Indonesia..his family ( Tunisian father and Indonesian Mother) traveled to Tunisia when he was 6 years old.. his Designing talent was soon revealed and marked his life as a student due to the Studentships he won at the Tunis Lyceum and later in France, with travels to Paris and Lyon where he acquainted himself with some of the Ideas of the contemporary Artistic currents....El Mekki's Art feeds itself  with a mix of his Asian heritage and North African elements and this particularity of his work allowed him to conquer a place in the European Art market... But , his work , for the Common Tunisian Citizen, will always be linked to the design of Bank Notes and specially of Postage stamps...
