Enrico Arno

[Germany][USA] (b 1913/d 1980)



Enrico Arno was born in 1913 in Mannheim, Germany, raised in Berlin and attended the Fine and Applied Arts School. (..) His maternal Jewish lineage obligate him to abandon his country .. Fleeing from the Nazis led him throughout Italy and eventually to the United States, where he began working as a book-jacket and record-cover designer in 1947. Arno's first published illustration was in 1955, for Jean Baptiste Moliere's The Misanthrope..(..) This activated a long career as an artist, illustrator and teacher (..) . At the age of sixty-seven, Enrico Arno passed away in his home in Long Island.

Halldór Pétursson

[Iceland] (b 1916/d 1977)


After graduating from highschool in 1935 Pétursson went to the Copenhagen Art School and completed his degree in 1938. Between 1942-45 he continued his studies in the United States at the Minneapolis School of Art and the Art Students League in New York.  Halldór Pétursson was a versatile and prolific artist with good form and sense of humor. His work is rich in drawings, oil paintings and watercolors . Halldór was one of the founders of the Association of Icelandic artists.

Antonio Calcagnadoro

[Italy] (b 1876/d 1935)


"Born in Rome, Calcagnadoro initially trained with his father, an ornamental painter. He then studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Rome (1894–1898). He often painted subjects of social discomfort among the poor. (..)  Many of his works are exhibited in the Museo Comunale of Rieti. The schools for arts in Rieti, part of the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Marco Terenzio Varrone are named after him."
