Lain Singh Bangdel

[Nepal] (b 1919/d 2002)


"Lain Singh Bangdel was Nepal's foremost artist, novelist, and art historian. In addition to being a leading authority on Nepalese art, Bangdel is best known as the "father of modern art" and was responsible for introducing the modern trends of Western art into Nepal ("Bangdel era") with his pioneering one-man exhibition in Kathmandu in 1962. As a novelist, he introduced realistic writing in Nepali literature during his period in Calcutta during the 1940s. Born in Darjeeling, India, he studied in Calcutta until 1951, lived in London and Paris until 1961, and finally came to his homeland Nepal in 1961. He also served as Life-Member, Vice-Chancellor, and finally Chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy (1962-1991)"

Willen Adriaan van Konijnenburg

[Netherlands] (b 1868/d 1943)


He received his first instruction in Drawing and Painting from his Mother, before attending a Summer Course at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1881..in 1884 he began his study's in the Royal Academy  , and after Graduation he started to give his own private lessons.. among his students was Princess Wilhelmina , that a few years later commissioned him to design the Silver Jubilee Series of Postage stamps in 1923...the continuous presence in the Cultural Life of the Royal Residence increased his visibility, and in this period he also started to do Book Covers , Posters and Cartoons ... He was commissioned to make several Monumental Art works from 1924 to 1941...

Hermann Clemens Kosel

[Germany] (b 1867/d 1945)


Hermann Kosel was a Writer, Photographer, Illustrator and Graphic Artist...he was born at Temný Dul, Bohemia and soon in his life , his family moved to Braunau, Austria where the young Hermann helped his father as Assistant Bookbinder.. He was a very talented draftsman but all his attempts to  enter the Fine Arts Academy were in vain.. from 1889 to 1991 he attended the Vienna Graphical Education and Research Institute , before working in the Baron Rothschild's studio.. In the period from 1892 to 1903 he published several books, some of them with it's own illustrations..from 1903 he started working also in Photography... In what concerns to painting , he was mainly a Landscape painter..
